Happy Birthday my very hard-working friend.
Despite the many diversions in life, we must do our work!
The spider in my book is busy spinning her web so she can catch the fly, which in the end she does. You may have noticed when you touch the pages of this book, that the spider, web and fly are raised. This is a design feature that is meant to draw your attention to the spider and her task at hand. I am still pleased by this quiet and word-less recognition of all of her efforts.

Happy Birthday Busy Spider! And thanks Mr. Carle!
ReplyDeleteYour very busy Spider and Charlotte are two of my favorites. Thanks for all you do to make children and adults happy.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Very Busy Spider! ♥
ReplyDeleteHappy 25th! This is my one year old sons favorite book! I think we read it about 25 times a day, and I still love it. Thanks for making books that both my son and I love to read!
ReplyDeleteI read The Very Busy Spider to some of my Kindergarten students a couple of weeks ago. One of the students was looking at the book later and was VERY excited to find the raised details on the pages!
ReplyDeleteI am thrilled to have found your blog Eric! I just love your work and have ready your books to my own children years ago, and again to my grandchildren now. I'm fascinated to learn that you create your own hand painted tissue paper, and would love to share your techniques with my grandson's classroom.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a special part of my family's childhood!

ReplyDeleteThank you dear Mr Carle for making it so easy for parents and teachers around the world to enjoy reading to and with our kids. To me, reading to my daughter is the most enjoyable parenting experience. Your books play a huge role in that! Thank you. And a very happy birthday to our hardworking friend!

For years, I have enjoyed sharing this book with my school and own (personal) children. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI have always used your books as a teaching tool, and I love them as much as my students do.
ReplyDeleteI would like to say "thank you" for something you did for one of my high school students. Their assignment for a nine weeks period was to learn about an artist and create something in their style. She chose you and she contacted you by email, asking this and that about your work. You emailed her back. I can still see that student's face as she ran in to the art room with a copy of your response. Thank you for taking the time to inspire her!

ReplyDeleteI read to my grandchildren the same copy of that book that I read to my youngest son when he was little - he's 25 years old now himself. As then, we trace the web with our fingers.
ReplyDeleteThe minute my children were born, their first books were Eric Carle books. The Very Busy Spider is found in board book and hard cover. You have brought much joy and vibrant imagination to our house.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and Thanks from the bottoms of our toes.
