So glad to have found your blog! Just tonight, our 4-year-old son (who has a geat imagination) has been walking around the house pretending to be "Eric Carle." We have to call him Eric Carle, and he is sitting at a computer "writing" a book. Apparently, I am supposed to be playing the part of Margaret Wise Brown. :) Thank you for giving my children wonderful childhood experiences!
Oh I saw sunflowers in the flower shop yesterday - I thought of Van Gogh but now I will think of you- Superb. You brighten up our days Cheryl H Perth Australia Where it is winter now!!
Hi, Mr. Carle! I'm Ty! If I want to make my Mom smile, or get out of trouble (who, me?) I ask my Dad if we can get her sunflowers, but now I can show her this painting :)
Your work means so much to me, Mr. Carle! I adored your books as a child, and if it's possible, I now enjoy them even more as an adult. Thank you, thank you!
We are an English family (now living in Australia), with two boys aged 2 and 7. We LOVE your pictures. I (mum) am very interested in art and absolutely adore your work. My two boys like the very busy spider book the best. My youngest son wants to be a spider when he grows up. My eldest wants to be an Artist and to be an illustrator doing pictures just like yours. Thank you.
This summer I introduced your Very Hungry Caterpillar character to my grandson (age 19 months) in book form, DVD form, and quilt form. Both were immediate winners! He is very insistent when he wants to read the book, saying (as only a little guy can) "ca-pillar, ca-pillar". He lays on the quilt and talks to the caterpillar drawing and then points to the butterfly and says "whoa" with amazement. When he watches the DVD, he nods his head the whole time the caterpillar is eating his way through the fruit and yells "cake" when he gets to Saturday and eats the wide range of foods. :) Thank you for the pleasure you've given me as a mom, teacher, and now grandma. Your books are timeless and loved by all who read them.
This is beautiful! I'm hopefully doing an art project inspired by you in my Grade 1 classroom this year. I'm using your books in our first Author's focus. Thank you so much for sharing your gift of art with the world:) Julie
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of the more than 70 picture books that I have written and/or illustrated. I was born in the U.S. and was raised in Germany. My background is in graphic design but since the late 1960's when I illustrated Bill Martin Jr's Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? I have been creating books for children. My illustrations are collages made with my own hand-painted tissue papers, a technique many children have replicated and enjoyed in their classrooms and at home. With my late wife Barbara, I am also the cofounder of The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing this.
ReplyDeletesunflowers always remind me of the movie Harold and Maude and they make me want to seize the day and live it like no other.
