- Eric Carle
- The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of the more than 70 picture books that I have written and/or illustrated. I was born in the U.S. and was raised in Germany. My background is in graphic design but since the late 1960's when I illustrated Bill Martin Jr's Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? I have been creating books for children. My illustrations are collages made with my own hand-painted tissue papers, a technique many children have replicated and enjoyed in their classrooms and at home. With my wife Barbara, I am also the cofounder of The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA.

Hello Eric Carle, I love you. I want the book about the blue horse to read in joy. We love your books. We are going on a trip to your museum tomorrow. We have been making pictures like you've done. I made a red lion. love, Penelope (4 years old)
Happy 2012 Mr Carle and Happy 45th Birthday to Brown Bear this year too.
Our local pre-school is also 45 years old this year and the children have been reading the book as part of our '45 year celebrations.'
Such excellent work; still enjoyed so much, by so many 45 years on.
