Happy Caterpillar Day! Mr Carle- my twin girls LOVE your books- they are now 2y2m old and one of your illustrations in 10 Little Rubber Ducks gave me such hope when my liitle girl, Jamie, was in hospital for chemotherapy last year. She had a neuroblastoma and the seal with rainbow gave me such hope at the time (plus your book manage to distract both girls). Thank you.
My almost five-year old son loves The Very Hungry Caterpillar. He wants to read it every day. He'll be very happy to hear it has its own special day today.
I love your books. The very hungry caterpiller is the first book I remember "reading" almost 35 years ago. Now my two sons love it, but I have to admit that nowadays I like the The Mixed Up Chameleon even better.
Happy Very Hungry Caterpillar Day, and Happy Spring! For eighteen years your books have helped to welcome my Super Star Kindergartners to their new learning environment and friends- I can't imagine our classroom without your wonderful storytelling and artwork.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of the more than 70 picture books that I have written and/or illustrated. I was born in the U.S. and was raised in Germany. My background is in graphic design but since the late 1960's when I illustrated Bill Martin Jr's Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? I have been creating books for children. My illustrations are collages made with my own hand-painted tissue papers, a technique many children have replicated and enjoyed in their classrooms and at home. With my late wife Barbara, I am also the cofounder of The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA.
