We have a butterfly in our house right now. I think it came in with the wood pile and thawed out. Fun to have, fluttering around, on a cold, snowy afternoon. Happy Holidays to you!
Hello Mr. Carle and thank you for making this beautiful image! It is so fun to look at. It makes me happy. It is two of the main things that I love the most. Even though it is obvious, I just realized they are never ever together in the outside world but are together inside of me in my happy thoughts and perhaps dreams. I love the snow and I love animals/ nature. I spend a lot of time living next to a brook in Ct so I get to interact with a lot of insects, spiders and other small animals. I am 8 and have loved your work since pre k. Is this from a book? It is ok if you do not answer. Have a happy 2017 and hope to meet you one day... Max M
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of the more than 70 picture books that I have written and/or illustrated. I was born in the U.S. and was raised in Germany. My background is in graphic design but since the late 1960's when I illustrated Bill Martin Jr's Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? I have been creating books for children. My illustrations are collages made with my own hand-painted tissue papers, a technique many children have replicated and enjoyed in their classrooms and at home. With my late wife Barbara, I am also the cofounder of The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA.
