This is precious! Just bought one of your shirts at Wal-Mart - the hungry caterpillar one, for my daughter! Also, just saw the advertisement for the museum on Noggin - hope to go there someday!
When I got my doctorate (with an emphasis in literacy and children's literature) my lead professor gave me a print out of Draw Me a Star--the rainbow print. It is framed and proudly hanging in my home. It would be one of the things I would grab if, heaven forbid, there was a fire. Thanks for the joy your art brings to so many.
:) Mr. Carle...Thank you, for providing years of smiles and giggles in our home. This evening I read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" for probably the ten thousand time...twenty-three years of reading aloud to in turn each of our nine children...adds up to a lot of evening spent with Mr. Carle and the wonderful creatures and stories of his imagination. Thank you!
I am from India.I am soo enthralled to find you here.Fascinated with your style and I adapted it in my lessons(my all time favorite).Kids or so fond of doing it.Tommorow I am doing 'The hungry caterpillar' and I know how the excitement is going to be.I will just get back to you soon.love you
Our Kindergarten classes are just starting an "Eric Carle Author Study" and we will be checking your blog for some "very hungry" updates. We also hope to join the Google contest for the new logo. Thanks for all you do for kids!! Maria Mallon Kindergarten Teacher
Eric, this is so cool, such a super message. I often refer to your books in my own blog; I'm a teacher and parent. Your books make my life easier! Thank you :)
My two year old is following in his brother and sisters footsteps and currently only wants your books to read! I also saw your "I Love You" tshirt for Walmart on a blog months ago and check weekly for it to show up in my local store!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of the more than 70 picture books that I have written and/or illustrated. I was born in the U.S. and was raised in Germany. My background is in graphic design but since the late 1960's when I illustrated Bill Martin Jr's Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? I have been creating books for children. My illustrations are collages made with my own hand-painted tissue papers, a technique many children have replicated and enjoyed in their classrooms and at home. With my late wife Barbara, I am also the cofounder of The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA.
