- The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of the more than 70 picture books that I have written and/or illustrated. I was born in the U.S. and was raised in Germany. My background is in graphic design but since the late 1960's when I illustrated Bill Martin Jr's Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? I have been creating books for children. My illustrations are collages made with my own hand-painted tissue papers, a technique many children have replicated and enjoyed in their classrooms and at home. With my late wife Barbara, I am also the cofounder of The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA.
How wonderful that you have a signing day at the museum. I'm sure it will be a fun event!

ReplyDeleteI wish I could travel to your museum to see you signing books. I am a kindergarten teacher and do an author study with your books. I also have three of your books in quilt kits to be made up for our classroom. I just bought my newest one yesterday of the Very Series fabrics. My favorite book is Papa get the Moon for me. My husband who is an amateur astronomer, comes to read it to my students each year for our annual read in week at school. Thanks for sharing your talents and love of science in such a kid friendly and artist way.

My 5 year old son is absolutely obsessed with your books! Every week, I bring him to the library, and he always takes out one of your books. He even wrote you a letter today telling you how much he loves them. Will you be doing any book signings in the New York area? He would just LOVE to meet you.

July 16 is my birthday!! Thank you for celebrating it with a book signing. My mother would be so proud. Seriously, enjoy the day because you are making so many people so happy.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter Emma is over the moon excited about this event! She is turning 6 this week and LOVES your books - all she is talking about to her friends is meeting you (we hope we are able to get in with the restricted allowance).. this will be fun! Thank you for doing this!
